Letter box

I just finished making 3 Letter Boxes made of walnut.
I liked the challenges these little boxes presented.
The first challenge was planing a piece of walnut down to 1/8” thick. I reacquainted myself with the wet-stone and sharpened my hand-plane to a razor sharp edge. I had to create a small holding jig to secure the walnut while planing. I was successful and planed 3 boards to the 1/8” thickness needed.
The second challenge was the angles I had to create. Again jigs to the rescue and I cut all the needed angles.
I used an old coloring book for the flower patterns on their fronts. I am getting much better at the scrollsaw. The mum flower took me the longest, about 2 hrs and the others only about 30 to 45 minutes.
The last challenge was the glue up! I pulled out all my various clamps and came up with the needed clamping pressures. I even used my very old Black and Decker workmate bench-top. That added to the winning combination of clamps.
I finished the Letter Boxes with Spar Satin finish. I’m very happy with the results and the added education.
Thank you for looking, leave me a comment I love reading them both pro and con.
